RADIO IN THE TIME OF COVID

At the onset of the current health emergency, ARTxFM began training our volunteer DJs to remote broadcast from the safety of home.   Thanks to their industriousness and determination to continue their programs, they have now established over 80 individual studios across the city.  Every hour or two, our live broadcast is emerging from a different location.  Basements, porches, and dining room tables across Louisville have now become mini-radio stations.  Dresserplex Studios, Alfresco-A-Go-Go, and Highlands Starrrgate are just a few of the fun names the DJs have given their remote headquarters.

The programming they provide from these locations has never been more important, more powerful.  Each DJ has taken this situation and their role in it very seriously.  They recognize their influence on the community and in addition to modeling social distancing practices, they are providing music and information around the clock that encourages our listeners to stay safe at home.

Every hour ARTxFM DJs are reading public service announcements from local and national health experts.  They are providing information about staying healthy and financially afloat during these critical times. In addition, WXOX is providing weekly programs on the Covid-19 pandemic for specific segments of our community such as Spanish speakers and teenage listeners.  We are providing live music experiences whenever possible and featured an in-studio, socially distant concert from Jonathan Richman and Bonnie "Prince" Billy when their national tour was cancelled.

In these trying times, we firmly believe in the power of radio to inform, heal, and connect.  It is our hope that by maintaining our daily broadcast, WXOX 97.1 FM will help our city - and our nation - persevre through this difficult time and emerge stronger, healthier, more resilient community.
